PARTITIONING HARD DISK DRIVE IN WINDOWS 7

The hard disk drive is the main, and usually largest, data storage device in a computer. The operating system, software titles and most other files are stored in the hard disk drive.

To partition your hard drive means to divide the hard drive into parts.

You can decide the function of the partitions; it could be for another operating system of for storage.
You don't need so much knowledge about computers before you can partition your HDD and it takes only a few minutes to carry out the process. There are a couple of methods to go about this but I'll be sharing the easiest with you.


Here we go:
1. Locate the control panel on your computer.

2. Select Administrative Tools





3. Select Computer Management

4. Select Disk Management





5. Select your Hard disk and Right Click on the Blue Line


6. Click on Shrink Volume and wait for the disk to be queried for space

7. Enter the Amount of Space you want for the partition/volume and Click on Shrink. (1000MB=1Gb)

8. You should now see a new unallocated partition in your Disk Management window. Right-click on the Unallocated partition and select the New Simple Volume option.

The New Simple Volume Wizard should popup. Click on the Next button to continue.

9. Enter size of new partition. Enter the amount of memory you wish to allocate for your new partition and click on the Next button.


10. Select from the menu, a letter name for your new partition and click on the “Next” button.
The letter name or path is used by Windows to identify and navigate to your new volume.


11. Click on the Format this volume with the following settings:

  • For File System, select NTFS

  • For Allocation unit size, select Default

  • For Volume Label, type the name you wish to give your new drive.

  • Click on the Perform a quick format
  •  Then click on the Next button


12.  Look over your settings and click on the Finish button.


13. 
 You will get a popup asking you to partition your new drive. 
  • Click on the Format disk button
• A new window will popup. Keep the settings and click on the Start button.

• A warning will popup. Click on the OK button



If everything was done correctly, you should now see your new drive in the Disk Management window.
